Harmful bacteria may be invading your mouth

Learn how ARESTIN + SRP can help you treat them

While both healthy and harmful bacteria live in your mouth, sometimes harmful bacteria can build up under your gumline and cause an infection known as periodontal disease, or gum disease. These bacteria can cause severe damage, and even tooth loss, if left untreated.

Some common symptoms of gum disease are:

  • Bad breath
  • Red, swollen, inflamed, or bleeding gums
  • Loose teeth

However, some people don't have any signs or symptoms at all.

Gum disease can also cause spaces, or pockets, to form around your teeth. A pocket that is 4 mm or more in size may mean you have an infection. Ask your dental professional to check your numbers to see if you might have periodontal disease.

Your dental professional can help you fight gum disease using a procedure called scaling and root planing (SRP):

  • Scaling removes plaque, tartar, and stains from the surface of teeth
  • Planing smoothes the rough areas on the roots of teeth to promote healing

However, SRP doesn't always reach all the infected areas. Adding ARESTIN®-the leading locally administered antibiotic (LAA)-helps kill the bacteria SRP may leave behind.

ARESTIN®+ SRP:

  • Kills bacteria known to cause gum disease
  • Reduces the size and number of pockets
  • Reduces bleeding of the gums
  • Improves the ability of your gums to attach to your teeth
